Once upon a time there were two 13-year-old kids who thought it’d be cool to “go out” in 8th grade. Little did they know, this was the start of something more incredible than words can describe. This was just the beginning of a story that God had written a long time ago and set into motion one September evening. This was the beginning of my relationship with Adam. It might sound silly to you, but I am certain that we fell in love at just 13 years old. Even though we eventually broke up freshman year of high school, there was always a place in my heart for him and those feelings I had as an 8th grader never truly went away. We talked and hung out here and there our sophomore and junior years of high school. By senior year, I was positive that no matter what I did, I could not shake the feelings I had for him. Toward the middle of our senior year, we started talking again and began hanging out more than we had in a long time. Then, one night he told me that he thought of me as his girlfriend, and I was beyond elated. Ever since then, (really since 8th grade) Adam has been the absolute love of my life. He is my best friend, my other half, and so many other things. I cannot imagine life without him, and last Saturday, June 29, 2013, Adam got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Words cannot even begin to describe how thrilled I am to be engaged to this man. God has truly blessed me with someone special. Everything about that day was even more perfect than I ever could have imagined, and I am completely sure that God blessed us in so many ways that day to show us that this is His will and what He wants.
It all started when Adam texted me the previous Sunday and said that he wanted to take me on a nice date. He said that we could go shopping and I could pick out an outfit that he would buy. Then, the following weekend we would go to Pittsburgh and take pictures for the blog against the beautiful scenery of the city. I was super excited about his idea and, of course, I agreed to it. So, we went shopping the next day and I picked out a beautiful cheetah dress. Just as we were checking out I saw this amazing little black dress with rhinestones on the collar and pointed it out to him. He told me to try it on but to be quick (we’d already been there for quite some time). When I came out of the fitting room, I saw his face light up and every time I told him a reason why I wasn’t sure about the dress, he gave me a reason why I should buy it. I ended up going with the cheetah dress because it was more my style, but I couldn’t shake the feeling of regret for not buying the dress he really liked. All week I thought about it, and finally, that Friday my mom and I went shopping at a different place and I found the same dress. I decided to buy it and surprise him, and boy am I glad I did.

I was completely clueless when these pictures were taken.
This was Adam’s view right before he proposed.
The next day, we made our way to Pittsburgh and we were both really excited. We absolutely love the city, and it has a very special place in our hearts. When we finally got to the city, we took the incline up to Mount Washington. It was unbelievably hot, so we decided to walk in the shade for a bit before going out onto one of the overlooks that give a beautiful view of the city. Finally, when we cooled off we walked onto one and waited for the other people to leave before snapping some pictures. Adam took some nice pictures for me and then suggested that I get one with the Steelers stadium in the background. After that, I decided to turn all the way around so that he could get the back of my dress. When I turned back around after he said he’d gotten the picture, he walked up to me and got down on one knee! Needless to say, I was shocked. I set my purse down and he took my hands, told me how much he loved me, and asked me to marry him! Even thinking about it now is making me smile and bringing tears to my eyes. (I’m such a sap). Of course, I told him yes, and he slid the most beautiful ring on my finger. He stood up and we hugged and kissed, and I told him how much I loved him. After relishing in the awesome first moments of being engaged, we waited for someone to walk by to take a picture of us. I’m sure we looked like a couple of smiling fools. Then, we walked over and sat down on a bench to talk about everything that had just happened. A little while later we decided to go back to the overlook because I wanted to get a couple more pictures. As we were waiting for the people to clear out again, a woman came over to us and apologized for interrupting but said that she had a prayer for us. She asked for my name and then began a simple prayer to God asking Him to bless my life. Then, she did the same for Adam and left. That brought even more tears to my eyes because I knew there was no way she had seen him propose, so I feel in my heart that God sent her to us as His way of saying that our engagement was the right thing and that He was giving us His blessing. After that, we got a few more pictures and eventually left Mount Washington. To celebrate, we decided to go to our favorite restaurant (Jerome Bettis Grille 36). We had a great dinner and couldn’t stop smiling the whole time. Afterwards, we took a beautiful walk along the river and talked about our excitement even more. Finally, we decided to go home. As we began driving, Adam surprised me with a whole playlist of Frank Sinatra and Etta James love songs to listen to the whole way home. I was completely speechless! We drove home in complete bliss listening to beautiful music and talking about how amazing the whole day had been. Eventually we got home, and I practically ran in the house with Adam in tow to tell my parents. There was so much excitement going on! After a while my parents went to bed, and Adam and I stayed up to talk some more. We decided to change into comfy clothes so I went upstairs to change, and when I opened the door to my room there was a rose and a note that said “I love you” accompanied by a beautiful letter from him laying on my bed. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day and night.
Of course we had to take some pictures with my newest piece of jewelry.
Words cannot express how excited and thrilled I am to be marrying my best friend, my other half, and the boy that I fell in love with at just 13 years old. That day was beyond perfect, and I feel as though it was God’s way of showing us that this is the love story He has written for us. I am so amazed at how much He has blessed me with Adam. I could not ask for a better person to be marrying, and I am confident that God will bless us in our new life together. I hope that we can honor Him in our marriage, and I would love if you could send some prayers our way for this new journey that we are beginning.
