Hi guys! You know when you have your whole day, week, or even month planned out, and then life hits you in the face and you’re like “Oh, yeah. Who was I kidding?” Well, yeah, that’s pretty much what happened to me at the beginning of this month. I had all these great plans and posts for the blog and then Adam and I got really sick and were basically out of commission for two weeks. That combined with a couple other little things, and, well, all my plans went down the drain. But you know, that’s the way life is sometimes, and it’s ok. I’m really trying to schedule my days out so that I can maximize my time, but I’m also trying to take life as it comes and adjust to the unpredictability that it brings sometimes. I think you have to find a good balance between the two in order to stay sane.

But anyway, on to the outfit! Because that’s all we really care about, right? I’ve been wanting a basic, red cable knit sweater for sooo long! I could never find one that was quite right though…until one day I went to Target (of course) and found this one! I (not-so-subtley) took a picture of it and sent it to my dear husband as a “hint, hint” for a Christmas gift. Needless to say I was totally surprised to open it Christmas morning. It’s like he read my mind! I instantly had so many outfits planned in my head for wearing it, and this was one of the first ones. I think you guys know by now how much I adore this read lipstick, which I might have said in a previous post (or two..or three). Those two, paired with a blanket scarf and messy half top knot, made for a great look and feel. Of course, I had to include my favorite girl in this post because…well…look at her. That face kills me! Hope you guys are having a great 2017 so far!

The Way to Go

Whenever I don’t know what to wear, putting on an all black outfit is always the way to go. It’s chic, simple, and classic. Not to mention black is supposed to be slimming, of course. Wearing black always makes me want to sport a bright red lip for some reason, and this lip stain is my absolute favorite. Even when it starts to wear off after a while and you have to reapply, it looks even better the more coats you put on. I love this outfit for its simplicity with a classic turtleneck and black jeans. The vest is a great way to add texture to this simple outfit. What’s your favorite go-to outfit?

Hi there! It’s been a little while, I know. We’ve had some reasonably big changes going on, and I’ll talk about that in tomorrow’s post. Anyway, it feels good to be back with an outfit for you all. Now that the weather’s getting colder and the days are getting shorter, it’s been harder and harder to capture my outfits before the daylight is gone. Luckily, I was able to get a couple shots of this one. It’s one of my new favorites because it combines a little bit of prep with a little bit of casual and makes for a super versatile outfit. I wore it to church, but it’d be great for a casual day at the office, a shopping date with a friend, or you can even swap out the flats for some heeled booties and take it out for date night. I’m a sucker for collared shirts and sweaters, so pairing them together for a casual preppy look was a no brainer. Hope you guys have a great Monday!

Favorite Vest

Turtlenecks are definitely a classic and have become one of my favorite pieces to wear in the cooler weather. I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, especially when they fit tightly around your neck. I’ve found the key is to get one with a slightly slouchy neck so you don’t feel like you’re choking. I think they look chic and put together. I’m also a huge fan of quilted vests in the fall time (just like every other girl). My mother-in-law bought me this one for Christmas last year, and I absolutely love the color of it! I’ve worn it so many times already this fall. I was surprised when she said it was from Kmart. I guess I don’t give them enough credit in the clothing department. This outfit is such a nice, simple one to throw on for any casual occasion. Hope you guys are having a good week so far!

Brown and Black

Top: Forever 21 (similar and similar); Jeans: LC Lauren ConradBoots: Macy’s (similar); Necklace: Charming Charlie (similar); Purse: Lauren Ralph Lauren

I’ve heard before that brown and black are not to be paired together. Just call me a rule breaker! I love the look of this flowy top with these structured riding boots. I added the cheetah print necklace to tie in the brown and black colors. As you guys know, I like to link everything so that you can purchase any pieces you see that you might like. It’s no secret I try to stick to a budget, which means I can’t always buy the most current items in stores. If I can’t find the exact item anymore, I try to link items that are identical or at least very similar. I wish they could all be the exact same pieces as what I’m wearing, but alas, I just don’t have the money to constantly be shopping. I hope you guys understand. Just trying to be real here! Ok, just needed to put that out there so you guys know. Happy Monday! Start the week off great.

Fall Favorites Under $50

Sweater / Scarf / Hat / Cardigan /Pants / TunicSkirt

“Fall favorites under fifty.” Say that five times. Fall always resurfaces my shopping itch. I just love the colors, patterns, and styles so much! However, I don’t have all the money in the world to splurge on the beautiful fall pieces I see. So I found some pieces under $50 that I love just as much. I’m hoping to add a couple of them to my wardrobe soon. I also want to go thrifting for some cozy sweaters before the cold weather really hits us. Hope you guys have a great day!

Top 5 Books

Something you may not know about me is that I am a huge fan of reading. I especially love to devour books during the summertime! I will always recommend some of my favorite books when someone asks, so I thought I’d list my top five for you guys in case you’re interested.

Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler

This novel is about a hairdresser, Dorrie, who does a favor for her oldest client, Isabelle, by taking her on a road trip to attend the funeral of a mystery person. Throughout the road trip Isabelle recounts the story of her forbidden relationship and the tragedies that unfolded because of it. I was somewhat skeptical of this book at first because it’s not my usual time period, but let me tell you, I was hooked! By the end of the book I had so many emotions running through me I didn’t even know what to do. I couldn’t stop thinking about this novel and its characters for days after I’d finished. I would recommend this book over and over again!

Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll

I love this book. I love this book. I love this book. I couldn’t put this down the entire time I was reading it! This one is more my style of reading. It’s about a girl, Ani, who leads a very calculated and perfect life. Things aren’t as they seem, though. While Ani is planning her wedding, she is asked to take part in a documentary about a seriously traumatic event that took place during her childhood. The descriptions and detail Knoll gives in this book are amazing! You can perfectly picture the setting of the novel and everything that takes place. I so badly want Jessica Knoll to write another novel!

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

I’m sure you all have heard about this novel by now since it’s been made into a movie. It definitely deserves the hype it’s received. This story is about a woman, Rachel, who takes the same commuter train every single day, and every day she sees a perfect couple, totally in love with each other and leading the perfect life. Except they’re not. One day, Rachel sees something so shocking when the train passes by the couple’s home that she almost isn’t sure it happened, but she’s terrified nonetheless. The novel follows everything that ensues after this moment, and it is so perfectly suspenseful! It was another one I couldn’t put down and would highly recommend.

Dreamland by Sarah Dessen

Dreamland is a young adult novel, but it’s been one of my favorites for years, even as an adult. Caitlin’s sister leaves her family unexpectedly one day and leaves Caitlin feeling lost and unsure of herself. Then Caitlin meets a guy at school and is swept up in a world that feels dreamy and unreal…until it’s all too real. Now Caitlin is stuck in this trap of a relationship with a guy she feels she doesn’t know anymore. This novel is both heartbreaking and uplifting at times. Even though it’s a young adult novel, it carries the weight of many adult problems. I’ve read it multiple times, which is saying something because I usually don’t like to repeat books.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I know this book is somewhat “old news,” but I love it just the same. This book was so amazingly suspenseful and Flynn’s writing is so descriptive. I’ve read all three of her books and I wish she’d come out with another. They’re very dark, though, so beware. Gone Girl is about a couple who couldn’t be more toxic for each other. When the wife goes missing, her husband is being blamed for her murder. The story follows his determination to find out what actually happened and to clear his name. There is a serious twist about halfway through the novel that left me in shock!
