Hi guys! You know when you have your whole day, week, or even month planned out, and then life hits you in the face and you’re like “Oh, yeah. Who was I kidding?” Well, yeah, that’s pretty much what happened to me at the beginning of this month. I had all these great plans and posts for the blog and then Adam and I got really sick and were basically out of commission for two weeks. That combined with a couple other little things, and, well, all my plans went down the drain. But you know, that’s the way life is sometimes, and it’s ok. I’m really trying to schedule my days out so that I can maximize my time, but I’m also trying to take life as it comes and adjust to the unpredictability that it brings sometimes. I think you have to find a good balance between the two in order to stay sane.

But anyway, on to the outfit! Because that’s all we really care about, right? I’ve been wanting a basic, red cable knit sweater for sooo long! I could never find one that was quite right though…until one day I went to Target (of course) and found this one! I (not-so-subtley) took a picture of it and sent it to my dear husband as a “hint, hint” for a Christmas gift. Needless to say I was totally surprised to open it Christmas morning. It’s like he read my mind! I instantly had so many outfits planned in my head for wearing it, and this was one of the first ones. I think you guys know by now how much I adore this read lipstick, which I might have said in a previous post (or two..or three). Those two, paired with a blanket scarf and messy half top knot, made for a great look and feel. Of course, I had to include my favorite girl in this post because…well…look at her. That face kills me! Hope you guys are having a great 2017 so far!

September Favorites

September has come to an end. I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by! It’ll be Christmas before we know it. Above are some of the items I noticed myself reaching for the most this month. What were your September favorites?

  • Dr. Brandt “Pores No More” face primer – My mom introduced me to this face primer, and I love it! The texture is smoother and thinner than my trusty Benefit “Porefessional.” It also has kind of an herbal smell which I like because it makes me feel like my face is cleaner even though I’m putting makeup on. I know that’s not true, but hey, it makes me like the primer anyway.
  • Urban Decay “Naked 3” palette – As we move deeper into fall, I’ve been reaching for the rosy hues of the Naked 3 palette. The colors add such a nice, warm feel to any makeup look. It has everything from golds to browns to pink tones.
  • Garnier Fructis “Sheer Set” hairspray – I already mentioned this hairspray in another post, but I like it so much I had to put it here. I’ve been on the go all month at weddings and on a trip, and this hairspray helped me to keep my curls and up-do’s in tact.
  • Bath & BodyWorks “Mahogany Teakwood” candle – This is one of my all time favorite scents at Bath & BodyWorks. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t smelled this before, but in case you haven’t, it basically smells like amazing men’s cologne. Whenever I burn this candle my whole house smells like Abercrombie & Fitch. I also found this scent in the form of shower gel, lotion, and body spray during the semiannual sale. I snatched them right up and have been smelling like men’s cologne for a month (which I’m not mad about).
  • Anne Klein watch – It’s no secret to anyone who’s been following my blog lately that I’m obsessed with my Anne Klein watches. I’ve been reaching for the gold one more this month because it pairs so nicely with all of the dark, warm fall tones.
  • OPI Nail Lacquer “Malaga Wine” – When it comes to nail polish, I love breaking out the dark colors for fall. This one is such a beautiful maroon color that will be on repeat for the next few months.

The Last Days of Summer

Hello, everyone! As you might have noticed, I’ve given the blog a little bit of a facelift. I wanted to start Chez Bri’s fifth year with a new look. I can’t even believe I’ve had this blog for four years! A lot has changed in my life since starting this blog, and I’m sure a lot will change in the coming weeks, months, and years. One thing I’ve definitely noticed changing is my style. Slowly, but surely, I’ve noticed myself drifting toward a style that is a bit more sophisticated and chic and less college student working at a juniors’ clothing store. I’ve been trying to slowly build a wardrobe that reflects this style by getting pieces that can be transferred between seasons and are basic enough to create multiple outfits. It’s no secret I don’t spend a lot on clothing, so finding pieces that can be transitioned in many ways is essential.

With all of that being said, I bought this tank and skirt during a birthday shopping spree that my wonderful husband planned. Obviously the tank can be worn with just about anything. The skirt isn’t as versatile, but I couldn’t pass it up. I got it for a killer deal! I’m hoping to carry it through the last few days of summer until I have to pack it away for spring. On a side note, this was the outfit I wore for our second anniversary while we enjoyed some delicious seafood at the beach. As usual, I’m so sad to see summer start to fade away!

Denim Jacket

A denim jacket is one of those staple pieces that has never and will never go out of style. At the end of spring, Adam and I went on a date to the nearest mall. I was so excited to find this jean jacket on sale in Banana Republic, one of my absolute favorite stores. One of my favorite styles of tees that I have also happens to come from Banana Republic. I have them in multiple colors, this black one included.

Anyway, I haven’t had a jean jacket since high school! This is mostly because I am extremely picky when it comes to choosing one. I absolutely hate when the arms feel stiff and the length of the jacket is awkwardly short. I also need my denim jacket to be just the right wash. Well, I found my dream jacket at Banana Republic! It has just a little bit of elastic in it, which helps with my need for it to be flexible rather than stiff.  I finally broke it out after waiting four months for the weather to cool. I’m really looking forward to styling it with more outfits. I’ve been looking all over Pinterest for some inspiration and looking through my closet for pieces to pair with it.

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. We’re half way to Friday!

Say Hello to My Little Friend

The title is corny, but I just had to! You guys know I mention Mandi quite a bit on here. Well, it’s because she’s my best friend, duh! We are so similar it’s crazy. One of our most obvious similarities is that we are both pretty darn short. (Thus the title.) I absolutely love her style, and I always turn to her with fashion questions. I so badly want her to start her own blog! Don’t worry, I’m still trying to talk her into it. She has some great fashion tips, tricks, and ideas.

Mandi came to visit over the weekend, and as usual, we shopped till we dropped. Also, I don’t think we stopped talking from the time she arrived until after she left. There’s always just so much to talk about and catch up on, especially now that we’re in a little bit of a long distance relationship (sad face). As soon as I opened the door and saw her outfit I was dying. I love the pink vest with the flannel! It’s a great way to add a pop of bright color in a season that is usually filled with dark hues. I was also admiring her cute little top knot. Sadly, I have yet to master this hairstyle, but she pulled it off perfectly!

I always love when Mandi comes to visit. Words can’t express how much I appreciate her friendship! You all should comment and tell Mandi to start her own blog!

Family Visits

Blouse: Forever 21 (similar and similar); Jeans: Target; Shoes: Shoe Carnival (similar and similar); Earrings: Macy’s (similar)

I’m so excited because my brother-in-law and his fiancée are in town for the week. They live pretty far away, and we haven’t seen them for about five months. It’s always fun when they come to visit because Adam and his brother are hilarious together! When we all get together the house gets pretty chaotic and loud, and I love it. They should be moving here sometime next year, and I can’t wait to have them near us because they’ve been gone for almost two years. I’m looking forward to the rest of the week and hanging out with them more.

Who do you enjoy getting a visit from?

Selfie Stick

Top: Forever 21 (similar and similar); Jeans: TargetSandals: Arden B (similar and similar); Scarf: Wet Seal (similar, similar, and similar); Watch: Anne Klein

Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more people with selfie sticks. Personally, I think they look ridiculous; however, after having tried multiple times to take outfit pictures on my own, I can see how they might be useful. I know their purpose isn’t really to take pictures of your outfit, but  that’s what I need one for. I don’t think I’ll ever get one, though, because I don’t think I could take myself seriously walking around with my phone attached to one of those. Sorry if any of you have one; it’s just not my cup of tea.

I’ve done a post with this shirt before. I’ve had it for years, obviously, and I love it so much! By the way, have you guys figured out the extent of my love for anything animal print yet? It’s pretty serious. You can see a good chunk of my collection on my Instagram feed @chezbriblog. I recently got these jeans for a steal at Target, and today was the first day I wore them. They are amazing! They are a high rise which I appreciate because I can’t stand when my jeans are riding too low, especially when I sit down. You feel me girls? I plan to purchase quite a few more pairs of these jeans in the future.

Where do you like getting your jeans from?
